Team India at the Homeless World Cup Oslo 2017

8 Men and 8 women outstanding players from all across India started their journey on 28th September for the Homeless World Cup Oslo. On the day Team India stepped out to represent their nation, they became part of something bigger than themselves and started the journey to become beacons of inspiration for their communities.

This year Team India had a fantastic tournament as both the teams’ performances were extraordinary. Teams left inspiration and memorable actions for them as well as for many players on the pitch after giving toughest fights to most of the teams.


India Men’s Team: Men’s competition was played in three stages. The men’s team finished second competing from group “F” with 9 points off 4 matches in stage-1. India beat Hungary in their opening game and by 4-3 and open their account with a win. Then team went head to head and beat France 7-2, Netherlands 7-3, but lost to Ireland 0-2.

In the second pool they finished 5th from a pool of six teams. They lost Portugal 2-7, beat Peru 6-3, lost Mexico in nail bitting match by 4-6, lost Costa Rica 4-8 and lost Austria 3-8.


In stage 3 (City of Oslo Bowl) India beat Netherlands 4-3 (Bassam 2, Zahid Mir 2) were the scorers in the quarters. In the semi finals India 2 Zimbabwe 2 which India won in sudden death scored by Bassam. The final was played between Denmark and India in which India lost by 4-2 and finished 18 position.

India Women’s Team: In the women’s competition, India topped group “A” in the first stage finishing with 12 points off 4 matches. The women’s team faced and beat Kenya 11-2, Scotland 5-3, Northern Ireland 8-2, USA 8-3.

In stage-2 – India finished 4th out of six earning 6 points of 5 matches played. The team played Mexico & lost 10-0, France 10-1, England 3-1 but were able to pick wins over Scotland 5-3, & Greece 7-4. After winning 2 wins they qualified for Homeless World Cup Semi Final.


They played their semi Final Chile in which India lost by 5-1 but gave them a tough fight. Then team played for 5 & 6th Position against France. They lost their game by 3-2 but their action inspired many visitors. So then it was the final game for the team against England for 7th and 8th Position. For this because of their lat match many supports came to help and encourage team India and as a result of that encouragement team beat England by 4-3 and retained their 7th position in the world ranking.

They retuned back to their home with some much pride as it was team india’s best performance in a tournament.
