Slum Soccer wins Gender Diversity Award at FICCI ‘GOAL’

Slum Soccer won the Gender Diversity Award at the 5th edition of FICCI “GOAL” here in Delhi. The International convention on Football Business held in Delhi last week was organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and AIFF (All India Football Federation).

The award was created by FICCI to recognise promotion of gender Diversity through football across India. Slum Soccer uses football to connect individuals, teach life skills and work towards improving the living conditions of women and marginalized populations in Indian society. Since the inception in 2001, the organisation has worked girls and boys, men and women in all across India. It mainly promotes the gender-related issues widely.

Slum Soccer CEO Dr. Abhijeet Barse received the award from Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports (IC) Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Secretary – Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Mr. Rahul Bhatnagar.

“The Award is dedicated to all those who have made Slum Soccer a reality. What started as my father Mr. Vijay Barse’s dream is now shared by thousands of others. This award is a result of the efforts put in by all of them and will serve as a boost to our future plans. It also proves that we are moving in the right direction in reaching the unreached through the power of football,” said Dr. Barse.

The initiative was established by FICCI and AIFF in 2013 to support the development of the Indian football industry and promote strategic dialogue around the sport. During the summit, discussions on the various policy level dialogues related to Football at National & State Level, Football as business and post U-17 World Cup impact were held.

With India gaining global attention after hosting the FIFA U17 World Cup, eminent speakers also discussed on how to harness the momentum the sport in the country.
